This initiative by Google potentially can be a game-changer in the education space.
For decades, universities and business schools have held on to the same business (profit) model at the expense of its customer-base (students). It’s ripe for change.
Think of brand-name firms in such industries such as chemicals (Dupont, 3M) to logistics (FedEx) if they did the same as Google. Imagine what this would mean for organizations as they seek new hires. It opens up the talent market to potentially a larger and more diverse pool. The challenge for recruiters will be to educate their hiring managers that certified qualifications can come from non-traditional sources other than universities.
TA teams, especially their sourcers, would need to keep updated on such qualifications when they do their market research and talent mapping.
